Highlights and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) from our Easton clinics - June 28th and July 19th at Talbot County Free Library (TCFL)


Our summer clinics brought in a mix of brand-new attendees and seasoned regular patrons. We handled everything from streaming service glitches to clearing decades of phone clutter. Here’s what the crowd asked — and how we helped at the clinic.


Mac and Computer Support


Q: My PBS streaming service won’t work on my MacBook.

A: We walked the user through a few new Mac OS features, confirmed the browser was up-to-date, and checked the PBS site settings to ensure it had permission to stream. Adjusted security and privacy preferences to allow autoplay and video playback.


Q: How do I work with Pages and find downloaded files on a Mac?

A: First, we explored Pages to show how to name and save documents to specific locations. Then, we navigated Finder to locate the Downloads folder and reviewed how to move files into organized folders for easy access.


Q: My emails on Mac aren’t coming through.

A: We opened the Mail app, checked account settings, and confirmed the incoming/outgoing server details were correct. We also reviewed how OneDrive stores and syncs attachments, showing how to manually trigger a sync if needed.

Email and Calendar Troubleshooting


Q: My iOS email inbox isn’t syncing.

A: We checked the user’s email settings under “Accounts & Passwords,” verified server information, and manually refreshed the inbox. We also checked device storage, as low space can block syncing, and removed old mail to improve performance.


Q: How can I get shared calendars to show up?

A: We opened the calendar app, went into “Accounts” to add the shared calendar link, and confirmed that the subscription was active. Then we adjusted display settings so events from the shared calendar were visible alongside personal entries.

Phone Storage, Cleanup and App Management


Q: My phone is full of clutter. How can I clear it?

A: We launched CCleaner and Wise Disk Cleaner to remove unused files and temporary data. Then, we walked through uninstalling unused apps, clearing caches from active ones, and enabling storage optimization in settings.


Q: I want to set up voicemail on my Android phone.

A: We opened the Phone app, navigated to voicemail settings, entered the necessary configuration, and recorded a custom greeting. We also made sure voicemail notifications were turned on.


Q: I’ve got uncommon apps installed and don’t know what to do with them.

A: We reviewed each app, explained what it does, and advised on whether to keep, update, or uninstall it. For the apps kept, we checked for updates and permissions to ensure they ran smoothly.


Cloud and File Transfers


Q: My file transfers are slow, and I’m getting odd notifications.

A: We identified background programs that were using bandwidth, closed them, and restarted the device. We also reviewed safe transfer practices and suggested using a wired connection for large files when possible.


Q: How do I better organize files in OneDrive?

A: We showed how to create folders, move files between them, and share securely. We also demonstrated how to set up OneDrive to sync automatically across devices.

Speciality Devices


Q: My Skylight frame won’t connect to Wi-Fi to receive photos.

A: We reconnected the frame to Wi-Fi, confirmed the network password, and tested sending a photo. Once the photo came through successfully, we demonstrated how to send future pictures from the Skylight app.


From Macs and Androids to cloud storage and smart photo frames, these summer clinics reminded us that no question is too niche to matter.
